The news that AFSCME has settled their contracts before the end of the year is exciting and has many of you wondering what the process is for HCSA. I'm writing with an update.
HCSA represents approximately 12 classifications of First line Supervisors across at least 5 departments. Because we want to make sure that our settlements consider and reflect, as it is appropriate, the agreements and wage patterns of those we supervise, we generally plan to schedule bargaining so that we settle a month or two after lead groups like AFSCME. In the past 15 years or so, that meant settling between April and June after expiration. This year, with AFSCME's early settlement, we are hopeful that bargaining will go faster. But, as always that depends on the offer that we are given at the table and how subsequent negotiations go. We have the results of our member bargaining survey from the end of summer and additional concerns gathered since then.
